The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), led by Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of TAT, is collaborating with Maha Sarakham Province, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), government agencies, and the Muay Thai Sports Association to organize “Esan Fest”, a three-day cultural celebration from 7–9 August 2025 at the Physical Education Building (New Campus), Mahasarakham University.
The festival aims to elevate the Isan region as a premier cultural tourism destination, through a variety of activities that blend entertainment, education, sports, and local lifestyle, while promoting the region’s distinctive soft power to a wider audience.
The event features vibrant cultural showcases including the Bun Bang Fai rocket parade, live performances of Mor Lam, Pong Lang, and popular Isan Luk Thung bands such as Rabiab Wathasilp, Sao Noi Phet Ban Paeng, and Boy Sirichai’s Jai Kuen Roi troupe. Enjoy mini-concerts with traditional and contemporary folk music, alongside the “12 Months of Thai Tourism” exhibition curated by TAT, which presents the best destinations for each month of the year, along with a local products market.
Festival Highlights
7 August 13:00–14:00 hrs: Buddhist consecration ceremony led by Luang Pu Sila, Luang Phor Suriyan, and Phra Ajarn Tom 16:00 hrs: Public blessing by Luang Pu Sila “Precious Esan” Awards Ceremony
9 August Traditional Wai Khru Ceremony performed by two Muay Thai legends – Buakaw Banchamek and Saenchai PK Saenchai Muay Thai Gym Followed by 10 consecutive professional Muay Thai bouts
Strategic Objective “Esan Fest” serves as a key platform to promote the Isan region to the global stage through tourism, culture, sports, and the arts, while also playing a critical role in strengthening and expanding Thailand’s soft power industry in a sustainable and impactful way.
